If you call yourself a Fundamentalist, you need to take the time to do your own search on ‘The Fundamentals: A Testimony To The Truth’ (also referred to as The Fundamentals or Fundamentalist Papers) Those writings were a set of ninety essays published between 1910 and 1915 by the Testimony Publishing Company of Chicago. It is very relevant to this subject on fundamental foundational flaws, that those things have become some of the traditional foundational aspects of many Baptists who call themselves Fundamentalists.
Those Fundamentalist Papers were not initiated by Baptists. That work was an attempt by Presbyterian-Calvinist-Protestants to try to bring their man-conceived so-called churches together. And interestingly enough, those ‘Fundamentals’ were being written right around the same time of Mr. C.I. Scofield’s Dispensationalist note bible! Dispensationalist-Fundamentalist-Baptists of today who continue to call themselves ‘Fundamentalists’ may want to check the history of their supposed foundation!
Any honest Baptist would agree that what has been called Fundamentalism has its flaws. Many Baptists, some good men, seem to think that the depth of the “…foundation…” of what is often referred to as their Fundamentals of the faith, reaches down only as far as some man back in the 1900’s. But that kind of foundation, if it can be called a foundation, is set in Protestantism and is not fashioned of “…sound doctrine…” (II Timothy 4:3)
Colossians 2:8 “Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.”
Did you know, that within the definition of the inspired word “…rudiments…” is the word fundamental! Are you willing to test your fundamentalism against God’s “…foundation…”? (Do not miss the test presented in chapter 3)
